Liposuction is the mechanism to achieve the result of Liposculpture.
Liposculpture: The Product
Many people refer to Liposuction as the procedure for removing stubborn areas of fatty deposits that wont disappear even after dieting, exercise and massage, however the art is Liposculpture.
Liposculpture is way both men and women can improve bodily shape and the reason may be as simple as being able to wear your clothes better. Common areas for having Liposuction are thighs, hips, abdomen, buttocks, knees, ankles calves and arms. It is also done in face areas such as chin cheeks, jowls, and neck.
This procedure may be done alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as facelift.
Before Surgery
Druing your consultation you and Dr. Crawford will discuss which aspects you would like to change.
You will have an examination to assess your fat storage, skin elasticity and review past medical history.
Dr. Crawford can discuss placement of the small incisions (punctures) and which areas need to be addressed to achieve your desire, and also discuss what medication you should avoid, such as anti coagulants and you may be asked to stop smoking before and after surgery.
You will also be required to have an electro cardiograph and blood tests which are considered essential before surgery.
You will be mobile immediately following your Liposuction, you will need to have someone to drive you home after and also to assist around the home at least for that day and night.
How It Works
The vast majority of Liposculpture is done on an outpatient basis, special cases, for example extensive procedures, may require hospitalisation. At Appearance Medical Centre the tunescent method of Liposuction is used in our registered day procedure theatre.
A small tube is inserted through a tiny hole 2-3mm, in an inconspicuous place. A weak tumescent solution is first introduced and then the fat is extracted using a vacuum. The tube or cannula is manipulated to remove the required fat to produce the desired effect.
After Surgery
Most patients are mobile immediately after their Liposculpture; sometimes one or two extra days may be required when large amounts of fat have been removed.
You may not feel great just after surgery, keep in mind you have had a surgical procedure, and healing is a gradual process.
You will need to begin normal activity as soon as possible after surgery. This will help minimise swelling and bruising, which might occur.
Is Liposculpture for You?
The best candidates should have firm healthy elastic skin, and be healthy. They should have attempted bulge elimination though diet and or, exercise. Those people with definite areas of fat inconsistent with their body shape can be very successfully treated.
You need a realistic expectation of what is achievable, and be aware Liposuction is not a method of weight reduction nor does it replace a proper diet and exercise.
Life after Liposuction
Keep in mind Liposuction is a surgical procedure and it may take some weeks before the benefits are seen. The full effect however may not be evident for up to a year after surgery.
It is important to maintain a balanced diet and exercise to maintain your benefits for years to come.
Many patients find there is a mental boost which encourages greater activity and an inclination to improve other aspects of their physique. However remember the goal is for you to be happy with your body shape.
What are the costs?
Fees vary depending upon which area or areas you require for treatment, Dr. Crawford will discuss this with you during the assessment process.
