Ears

Otoplasty (Ear Correction)

Prominent ears is one of the most common inherited conditions people wish to improve. These are often perceived as being odd out of proportion .ie too large or sticking out too far.

Surgical correction has been first recorded as over 150 years ago and there have been many techniques for corection. However it is usually failure of adequate development of the anti helix or projection of the conchal bowl which result in the appearance and each is readily correctable with minimal incision.

It is important to place the tissue of the ear so that it will grow new tissue to hold the ear in place and not rely entirely on enlocated stitches to maintain correction.

The Procedure

The procedure is performed using local anaesthetic and hypnotic sedation in our on site day procedure theatre.

It takes up to 90 minutes for completion and a headband is required after and usually worn for several weeks.

You will need to return the next day for checking of the site and dressing change.

You may return to work the next day.
